The Vow

The other weekend I went to see The Vow with some friends. I didn’t know much about the movie going into it, but I thought it was going to be a chick-flick romance. Chick-flicks are okay, but when you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all & I have to be in the right mood for one. I was in for a pleasant surprise though, because The Vow wasn’t so much a chick-flick. Sure, it’s based around a couple’s love, but the movie concentrates more on their actual relationship.

The Vow is about a young married couple who are head-over-heels for each other. One night on the way home from a movie, they get rear-ended by a big truck. Paige goes through the window and encounters severe head trauma. Leo, her husband, has some scratches and cuts, but nothing life threatening. Paige stays in a coma for a little while after the wreck, but thankfully, she eventually wakes up. However, when she wakes up she doesn’t remember anything during the time period of her & Leo’s relationship. She remembers her ex-fiancé prior to Leo though. Leo spends the whole movie trying to get her to remember their relationship and who she was before the wreck. Through series of events, he decides to give her space and let her start over because she obviously isn’t remembering how it was. They start dating different people, and starting their own lives over without each other, but then Leo gets the idea to ask her on a first date, just like they had never met each other before in their lives. Things progress and they end up back together again.

Some people didn’t like the ending because she never remembers and they’ll never share the memories they had before, but that’s why I like it. I really liked the ending because even though they can’t share those memories again, Leo still has them and he is willing to get back with her despite everything he has been through with her. After the wreck it was less than enjoyable for him, but that doesn’t detract him from her. Another thing I liked about the movie is the fact that this movie is based on a true story. There really is a couple that went through all this, but now they’re married with three kids, even though she has never remembered. It goes to show that if you persevere and things are meant to be, don’t give up because the strong succeed.

  1. Haha. You know me, I'm a sucker for these kind of movies but I of course was one of the people who didn't like it because of the ending. It just stinks that she will never have those memories back, kinda depressing. But over all it was a very good movie!

  2. ok so you pretty much read my mind when you discribed a chick flick. I could not agree more when you told me the ending how it wasnt the ideal happily ever after it seemed like an ok movie. Not being a debbie downer or anything but i love romantic films that have that depressing twist to it. for example dear john. :) right this minute me and dylan are leaving to go see it. haha thanks for the review

  3. I have to say you ruined the ending for me. But its ok. I still need to go watch it though, but in your last paragraph i do totally agree that if you truly love someone like leo loved paige then you shouldnt give up on it.

  4. I've heard good and bad reviews of The Vow, but like Harleigh, thanks for ruining the movie for me! Haha! Anyways, true love is something you fight, live and breathe for, not something you give up on. There is always that one person, you'd be willing to give the world to if it were possible. I know I sure would like that!

  5. The Vow is definitely on my list too see and like Eric I have heard bad and good reviews! Yet the people who gave the bad reviews might just be Un romantic people who just don't get the whole lovey thing and they are just being bitter about it so I want to make my own opinion about after I watch it! Your description makes me want to go watch it more though!

  6. im actually pretty glad i went and saw this movie with you. i had heard some good things and bad things about it but from obviously different points of veiw. the movie wasnt anything i expected it to be. i was afriad it was just going to be another chick flick with a sappy story, but to my suprise it wasnt. There actually was a good bit of humor and it wasnt the typical guys suck and put women through a world of emotional pain. This movie was actually through the eyes of the man, and my favorite part of it all is the fact that it didnt end with them running into each others arms in the pouring rain to kiss each other.

  7. Oh my goodness how I adore this movie. It does make me sad how it didn't actually "say" they get back together and married again, etc. but it did say it was based on the true story of a couple where the woman was in the exact same place and they eventually got back together and remarried and fell in love again and had kids. This movie truely is a must see, but it really had me tearing up and laughing and mad all in one movie!
